Answering some questions about Communication I learnt some interesting facts about its history that I defenetly did not know about before the lecture. These are some of those questions and the answers that all the class came up with together:
1. Since when does advertising exist?
It depends on how we define advertising. In the commecial context, it could have been when the commerce started. However, it needs a structure, a media.
2. Can Guttenberg´s print be considered a mass medium?
It is certainly today, but not in the time of Guttenberg because there was not a mass that could read. In fact, most of the people were illiterate and only the rich could have the priviledge to buy or read a book. To be a mass medium is necessary a mass audience.
3. When was cinema born?
The history of film began in the 1890s, with the invention of the first motion-picture cameras and the establishment of the first film production companies and cinemas.
4. When was the internet born?
It was born in the 20th century with the development of electronic computers in the 1950s. The US Department of Defense awarded contracts as early as the 1960s for packet network systems, including the development of the ARPANET
5. What is a digital native?
Is a person born or brought up during age of digital technology and so familiar with computers and the internet from an early age.
